How We Started

The Jake Pastel Cancer Fund is a Section 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation dedicated to helping children with cancer and their families. In February 2007 my nephew, Jake Pastel, was diagnosed with a GBM a Grade IV non-operable brain tumor. Each year approximately 200,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor. These brain tumors are the leading cause of cancer deaths in children under age 20 surpassing acute leukemia.

Our Inspiration

Once a child is diagnosed with cancer the dynamics of the family is changed forever. The entire family will struggle to both financially and emotionally live in the aftermath of this diagnosis. Jake’s courage, faith, and personal strength amaze those around him. Time after time Jake has displayed a positive attitude in the face of these disease-related setbacks and disappointments. Jake is the inspiration behind this fund. This fund will not only help pay for Jake’s care but for the care of other children with cancer and families like his. The fund will also support the medical facilities treating patients with brain cancer and cancer related problems. We are truly grateful for the generosity of our donors and the hard work and dedication of our volunteers who further our mission to inspire and empower people affected by cancer. All donations to the Jake Pastel Cancer Fund are tax deductible.

Update from Jake's Dad May 16, 2008
Jake had his latest MRI and there was no reduction but no growth. He is doing pretty good. We are both pretty weary of the whole ordeal but continue on to kill this thing. I am looking into other medicines to help. One is called DCA and is only available in Canada. I have a mutual friend that I met on the Internet who has a 3 year old son with Jakes exact diagnosis. He has a website www.jacksbattle.com. Very nice people and we swap ideas.. . .(more)

Jake's Story Feburary 2007 Jake walked into his father's office and said,
“ Dad, I think I have carpel tunnel ”..." Jake, people your age don't get carpal tunnel.”

Jake's father will remember that conversation for the rest of his life. . . (more)

Jake's Thoughts It is important to know that there are shadows and that there is light. This tumor has, given me a greater reach for knowledge, which is exciting; there is still so much more. This tumor has given me more than I bargened for spiritually and emotionally. . (more)
